What's the news?
German tuning company edo competition has given the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Estate a 143hp power increase. Photos showing smoking rear tyres suggest that this estate isn't just about sensible load carrying.
Exterior
To deal with the performance 19-inch wheels are fitted, 8.5-inches wide on the front and 9.5-inches wide at the rear. The alloys carry 225/35 and 265/30 ZR Michelin tyres respectively. Other than that, the appearance is surprisingly restrained. Even the stainless steel performance exhaust is designed to mimic the standard system in appearance.
Interior
edo has given the C 63 AMG's interior extra carbon fibre trim. A range of customising options are available. The company can provide a choice of upholstery and trim options, allowing changes to the steering wheel, pedals or console. The possibilities are described as 'virtually limitless'.
Mechanicals
The changes are designed to improve the 6.2-litre V8's breathing. A high-performance air filter gets air into the engine, while new exhaust manifolds, high-capacity catalytic converters and a sports exhaust get the gasses out. As a result 600hp and 680Nm are available (compared with 457hp and 600Nm for the standard motor). The engine management system is reprogrammed and each engine is set up on a dynamometer.
Data
edo removes the speed limiter and claims a top speed of 211mph. The 0-62mph time is estimated as 4.1 seconds. No fuel consumption or CO2 emissions figures are quoted. No prices have been quoted either but customers can decide for themselves which parts of the package they want to take.
